Pastor
Don Smith, senior pastor of the Living Way Foursquare
Church in Concord, believes in being involved in his community.
He says, 'if our community is to be safe, friendly, and
prosperous, then we need to take an active position to
bring positive change. If we are passive we become a part
of the problem and not the solution. It is our responsibility
to become a part of the solution."
"We
need to restore self esteem and self respect to people
that by various circumstances have been brought to am
place of real need. Safe Havens can be a beacon of light
to women who have lost hope and can give them a future
of financial self-dependence and prosperity. Women and
their children must be restored to a life that a loving
God has intended for them."
He
has been involved in Safe Havens for Little people for
more than two years and is excited by the possibilities
for change that it can bring to women who are out of domestic
violence situations as well as women on welfare. He serves
on the board for safe Havens and is involved in the areas
that he is most needed.
He
is also on the board for Loaves and Fishes, a nonprofit
organization that feeds the hungry in Contra Costa County.
He is involved in the Monument Corridor Community Project
in Concord, as well as being a board member for several
other organizations that serve the communities of Martinez,
Concord, and Antioch.
